Across 872 Australian IT services businesses, the median digital performance score sits at just 45.5. Ratings are excellent and tiers skew early-stage, with only 4.6 per cent reaching Accomplished. The cohort is near-evenly divided between growth and decline, exposing a sector where reputation rarely translates into reach.

Findings from the sweep
Finding 01 · Reputation paradox

Glowing ratings, but almost nobody is reviewing you

The median business holds a 4.9 rating from just nine reviews, while the top quartile has gathered around 23. For 45.3 per cent of the cohort, strong sentiment is undermined by review volume too thin to build lasting trust. High scores mean little when few prospects can see them.

Finding 02 · Search invisibility

More than half struggle to be found online

An estimated 52.8 per cent of the cohort sits in the low-traffic band, and 31.5 per cent are effectively invisible in search. A median domain authority of 13 leaves most firms unable to compete for the queries that generate enquiries. These are approximations, but the pattern is consistent across the field.

Finding 03 · Growth divergence

The sector is splitting almost evenly in two

Growth and decline are near-mirror images, with 49.4 per cent expanding their digital footprint and 49.6 per cent contracting. Sixty-one businesses have collapsed outright over the period. There is little middle ground here — firms are either building momentum or losing it.

Finding 04 · Website and conversion

Weak sites leave most firms stuck at Emerging

Some 56.5 per cent of the cohort ranks in the digital bottom band, and 43.2 per cent remain in the Emerging tier with 27.4 per cent off the radar entirely. WordPress leads the platform mix, though a notable share run undetected or no clear CMS. For a sector selling technical capability, the storefront rarely reflects it.
